Overview
Based in Ireland, Jurys Doyle Hotel Group is one of the fastest-growing hotel groups in Europe, with 35 trading properties in the UK, Ireland and USA. The Group's portfolio consisted of 5 hotels before its rapid expansion began in 1993 with the launch of the Jurys Inns budget brand. Strong growth has continued ever since with the opening of 26 new properties and the acquisition of Doyle Hotels (11 hotels) in 1999.
Today, Jurys Doyle Hotel Group; Irelands largest hotel group, is a market leader in the hotel sector with an established presence in international markets. It offers business and leisure customers a portfolio of 3- 4- and 5- star hotels and inns in prime city centre locations in Ireland, Europe and the USA. Headquartered in Dublin the group now has 35 properties totalling over 8000 rooms, with over 4000 employees and has a further 5 properties in development.
Following the successful implementation and roll-out of SAP Financials during 2001 and 2002 the company wished to further exploit its investment in SAP by implementing SAP Payroll to support the properties in Ireland and the United Kingdom.
The Business Objectives
The business objectives of implementing SAP Payroll at JurysDoyle solution may be summarised as follows:
- To integrate payroll with the existing SAP finance and procurement system landscape
- To implement a single Dublin-based payroll shared services centre for the whole of the UK and Ireland
- To reduce business risk by migrating a core business function to a strategic software platform
- To automate time capture of staff clock in/out information to streamline payroll processing
- To improve management control and decision making through the provision of accurate and up to date HR & Payroll Management Information
- To develop a solution which is scalable and designed to support future acquisition and disposal activity with the minimum of effort and cost
- To achieve a seamless transition of the new SAP payroll system into post implementation support with a 3rd party supplier
The Project
Xayce were the Prime Contractor for the delivery of the programme and worked alongside people drawn from JurysDoyle, SBS (Internal JurysDoyle SAP Infrastructure Provider), KABA Benzing (Automated Time Capture) and Serco (3rd party SAP payroll support organisation).
The programme replaced 28 existing legacy systems for the UK and Ireland properties with a standard SAP solution, and created a payroll shared service centre based in Dublin. The implementation provided JurysDoyle with a common set of payroll business functions within a single facility, driving economies of scale associated with process standardisation across a single technical platform. A biometric time recording system from KABA Benzing was also implemented with full SAP integration, with biometric fingerprint readers installed at each of the hotel properties and at the Dublin Head Office to record staff clock in/out times. SAP payroll support post go-live is being provided by Serco.
The project was delivered on time and within budget.
Jim Allen, Financial Controller and Project Sponsor at Jurys Doyle: "Xayce were great, pragmatic, focussed and worked in a partnerial manner throughout the project lifecycle. We even came in under budget which must be a first.............."
